Major Weather Changes Ahead For Long Island

Beginning this week, some big weather changes are moving in and are expected to remain around for awhile on Long Island.

Sorry, snow lovers, but it's beginning to look quite likely that Long Island won't see any accumulating snow through the end of the month.

"Following a downward slide with temperatures into Tuesday, mild air will bounce back across much of the Northeast later this week," AccuWeather Long-Range Meteorologist Max Vido says.

By Thursday, we could see temperatures approach 60 degrees on the island.

"Another batch of chilly air will invade the region from later Friday into Saturday," Vido says. "However, the cold air will not last more than a day or two. By early next week, temperatures are likely to be on the upswing."

Now, of course, long-range forecasting is far from a science. In fact, just last week, AccuWeather said the island could see snow well into April.

But we are certainly creeping closer to spring with no snow in sight.

"Could we get a shot for snow in the first half of March?" Joe Cioffi, a meteorologist for WPIX-TV and FiOS1 News, wrote on his website Monday. "Of course we could but it is becoming increasingly clear that everything will have to line up perfectly in the upper atmosphere for something to happen. The odds each day grow longer and longer."
