Man Arrested For Felony DWI After LIE Service Road Crash: Cops

Police say his 11-year-old was a passenger in his car.

MEDFORD, NY – A 54-year-old man was arrested on a felony DWI charge after a crash on a Long Island Expressway service road Saturday night, police said.

According to Suffolk Police, Zahirul Islam was driving a 2001 Nissan Altima east on Express Drive South when he crashed into a 2016 Lexus that was also traveling eastbound at about 8:05 p.m.

Islam's wife and his 11-year-old son were in his car. No one was injured in the crash.

Islam, of Bellport, was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI with a child passenger 15-years-old or younger (a felony under Leandra’s Law) and endangering the welfare of a child.

The 11-year-old was released to his mother at the scene.

Islam was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
