Mazzei Resigns from Brookhaven Town Board

Now former town councilman resigns in order to run for Suffolk County Court Judge.

Tim Mazzei has resigned from his seat on the Brookhaven Town Board.

Mazzei, a Republican who had served on the board since 2003, stepped down in order to run for Suffolk County Court Judge, according to a press release from Brookhaven Town.

Mazzei’s resignation became effective on Thursday. The Blue Point attorney spent nine and a half years working in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office before taking his seat on the board representing the Fifth Town Council District, which includes Blue Point, Patchogue, North Patchogue, East Patchogue, Medford, parts of Lake Ronkonkoma, Holbrook, Holtsville, and many communities on Fire Island.

“For 11 years, Tim Mazzei has been a staunch representative for the Fifth District. I was fortunate to have him share his experience and wisdom with me,” Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine. “He has been a dependable member of our Town Board and someone who has helped do the right thing for Brookhaven Town. I know he will be a great County Court Judge.”

By resigning now, town officials say Mazzei is saving taxpayers $100,000 by avoiding a special election in early 2015. Voters will now elect a new councilperson on Election Day in November.
