Patchogue-Medford HS Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
Students of Patchogue-Medford High School hosted their first Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration.

MEDFORD, NY - From Patchogue-Medford School District: Patchogue-Medford High School students, including those who are members of the Hispanic Heritage Club hosted the first Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at the end of October.
During this event, students, under the guidance of their Spanish teacher, Adriana Devers-Rodríguez, recognized faculty members, parents, and current and former students, for their service to the school and community.
The colors of the Latin American flags, along with the American flag, decorated the room, which was filled with pride and diversity.

Guest speaker Margarita Espada, owner of the non-profit organization, Teatro Yerbabruja in Central Islip, shared her story of hope and success in a humble household. She was then presented with an award along with “Cartas de esperanza” (letters of hope), 247 letters written by high school students to Puerto Rican families and friends.
Students also showcased their abilities as hosts, presenters and organizers.

At the end of the presentations the honorees received a certificate of recognition titled “Orgullo Hispano.”
The honorees of the event were Spanish teachers, Norma Marino and Victoria Maleh, social workers, Wilda Rosario and Haydee Beltrami, psychologist Felicia Scott, attendance secretary, Rose Ayala, ENL teacher Rejane Ribeiro, high school dean, Ana Leal, World Language department secretary Ivette Lopez, honorary member Stephanie Vogel, former students, Brian Fernandez and Andrea Rocano, senior Jorge Jimenez Alatorre and parent Zonia Morales.
