Richard J. O'Brien Foundation Presents $25,000 to New Interdisciplinary School (NIS)
Donation will help fund two programs: Adaptive Horseback Riding and Fun for All Sports.

The New Interdisciplinary School (NIS), an early childhood learning center serving students with and without disabilities, has been awarded a $25,000 donation from the Richard J. O’Brien Foundation to help fund two programs: Adaptive Horseback Riding and Fun for All Sports. This contribution was made possible through the revenue generated at their inaugural Networking Breakfast, which will be taking place once again on September 27th at Oheka Castle in Huntington, NY.
The New Interdisciplinary School is an innovative early childhood learning center that respects the unique needs of each child and family. NIS provides educational and therapeutic services in accordance with best practices in early childhood education, advocating the right for every child to develop to their full potential. The therapeutic horseback riding program, established in 2002, takes place at a local stable and provides an innovative and motivational support within the community. Fun for All Sports, a recreational sports and fitness program, was recently initiated to enable students of all abilities to learn and enjoy the fundamentals of sports in an inclusive setting. Fun for All Sports fosters teamwork, self-esteem and supervised exposure to recreational and team sports.
The Richard J. O’Brien Foundation, dedicated to honoring the memory of its namesake who was very active in many non-profit organizations across Long Island, was started by O’Brien’s family and friends. This all-volunteer association supports charities focusing on children in need of special care and bereavement counseling. “The support provided by the Richard J. O’Brien Foundation has been instrumental in NIS’ mission to provide all children the opportunity to learn in an inclusive, innovative, and state of the art facility. The foundation has demonstrated a commitment to NIS and other mission-driven organizations that serve populations in need. We are grateful beyond words for the support and commitment the Richard J. O’Brien Foundation has provided to our students,” said Jay Silverstein, Executive Director of NIS.
