Snow, Rain In Store For Long Island This Weekend

Don't pack away your snow boots just yet.

Spring, where are you? There still a chance Long Island will get snow this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS says the snow is likely to come on Saturday from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Rain is most likely to occur from 8 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Saturday and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

There is a 30 percent chance of precipitation.

The good news is the chance of rain or snow has decreased since predictions came out earlier this week. The forecast no longer predicts that it will snow on Friday and Saturday's chance of precipitation is no longer 70 percent.

Sunday will be mostly sunny.

Here's the NWS weekend weather forecast for Long Island:

  • Friday night: A 50 percent chance of showers, mainly after 10pm. Increasing clouds, with a low around 38. Breezy, with a south wind 17 to 22 mph becoming west 8 to 13 mph after midnight.
  • Saturday: A chance of snow showers before 2pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 48. Northwest wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
  • Saturday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Light north wind increasing to 8 to 13 mph after midnight.
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 48. Wind chill values between 20 and 30 early. Northwest wind 11 to 13 mph.
  • Sunday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph.
