Special Weather Statement Issued For Long Island

The National Weather Service has issued the following special weather statement for Long Island:

Air temperatures near or below freezing, high relative humidity, and light winds will combine to form areas of black ice on untreated roads. Anyone out driving tonight into Monday morning should be especially cautious. Slow down and allow plenty of braking distance in case you encounter black ice.

Monday- Areas of fog before 9am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 50. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the morning.

Monday Night- A 20 percent chance of showers after 3am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 39. Calm wind.

Tuesday- Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 58. Light southwest wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning.

Tuesday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 32. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph.

Wednesday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 43.

Wednesday Night- Rain likely, mainly after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Thursday- Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Thursday Night- A 50 percent chance of rain. Cloudy, with a low around 41.

Friday- Rain likely, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
