Winter Storm Warning Now in Effect; Hour-by-Hour Forecast
A snow day is looking quite likely Monday for the little ones. See the latest on what to expect from the approaching storm.

A winter storm warning is now in effect for all of Long Island until 7 a.m. Monday. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 8 inches are expected, the National Weather Service says. Amounts may be lower across the South Fork as rain mixes in late Sunday night.
The heaviest snow will occur from about 9 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday. The snow should taper off at, or just before, the start of the Monday morning commute.
The snow could make travel "very difficult," the NWS says. The hazardous conditions could impact those traveling Sunday night and during the Monday morning commute.

"The heavy, wet nature of the snow can weigh down some trees and cause power outages and will make shoveling difficult," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski said. "Be sure to take frequent breaks, and those with heart issues should seek out the assistance of others to clear their sidewalks and driveways."
There does remain a good degree of uncertainty in the forecast as there are some forecast models that indicate more of a mixing with sleet and rain across coastal areas, the NWS says. A slight shift of the storm track further north would reduce snowfall totals closer to the coast.
