YMCA-LI Announces New Fitness Initiatives to Combat Excuses in Keeping New Year's Resolution
YMCA Focuses on Overall Health with Individualized Approach for Members
To help Long Islanders stick to their New Year’s resolutions on beginning a healthy and active lifestyle, the YMCA of Long Island recently announced the launch of several new initiatives, including waiving the annual joiner fee, the introduction of the original LesMills BODYPUMP® barbell class and YMCA-LI’s My Wellness Plan, all designed to help people stay motivated, achieve their fitness goals and get the true value of their memberships.
“So many people set a resolution for the New Year to go to the gym every day,” said Anne Brigis, President and CEO of the YMCA of Long Island. “Only a few people end up staying with their plans. We have waived our joiner fee and launched new fitness plans with the goal to work with individuals, find their barriers to living a healthy lifestyle and break down those barriers.”
The YMCA’s “My Wellness Plan,” which is part of a full membership, offers a personalized approach to improve health and happiness, and achieve a lasting lifestyle change. The plan provides members with access to a Wellness Coach who will work closely with each person to break through obstacles and realize long-term success. The Wellness Coach will communicate with members regularly to keep them focused and motivated.

“My Wellness Plan” fosters improvements in mental and physical well-being, stress-reduction, and increase in daily energy, new friendships and long-term health improvements. The plan encourages members to choose, develop and evaluate their goals. If goals are not being met, the Wellness Coach can help reassess goals and develop a new approach.
“Our new ‘My Wellness Plan’ is not just about getting in shape,” said Brigis. “The plan is designed as a personal life-style change and to invite people to join the positive, welcoming YMCA community where people of all ages feel comfortable with each other and with themselves. We want to strengthen all aspects of health, not just the physical, but mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness as well.”
