Southern State Parkway Crash: Police ID 2 People Killed

UNIONDALE, NY — Police have identified two people who were killed in a two-car crash on the Southern State Parkway in Nassau County.

Around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, a 19-year-old Shirley man was driving west in a 2004 Honda Pilot when he sideswiped a 2020 Toyota Corolla, state police said. The crash happened near Exit 21 for Nassau Road in Uniondale.

The Pilot then struck and crossed over the center median guide rail and smashed into the overpass.

Patricia Ramkissoon, 23, of Bay Shore, and Elliott Bryant 23, of Brooklyn, were passengers inside the Honda Pilot. They died at the scene, state troopers said.

Two passengers in the Pilot were seriously hurt and rushed to Nassau University Medical Center. The driver and front passenger of the Pilot were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The occupants in the Corolla were not hurt.

The parkway was for closed for hours at Exit 22 and traffic was diverted onto the Meadowbrook State Parkway.

Police are asking for anyone with any information on the crash to call 631-756-3300.

The crash occurred on a portion of the parkway known as "Blood Alley, a 10-mile stretch between Exit 17 in Malverne and Exit 32 in South Farmingdale. There have been more than four dozen fatal crashes on the stretch since 2014, CBS 2 reported.

"Too many families have gone to too many funerals or sat in too many hospital rooms, because of the poor design on that road,” State Sen. Todd Kaminsky told CBS.

In September, four people were killed in a fiery wrong-way crash on the Southern State in North Massapequa.
