Bellmore Man Dies After Driving Into Concrete Pole In Parking Lot

Police said that witnesses saw him seemingly drive into the pole on purpose.

MERRICK, NY — A Bellmore man died Tuesday evening after police said he seemingly drove into a concrete pillar on purpose in a Merrick parking lot.

According to police, Lloyd Sagendorph, 30, was driving a 2007 Hyundai Sonata in the Merrick LIRR parking lot at 6:25 p.m. when he hit a light pole. Witnesses said he then backed up his car, turned around, and started speeding across the lot.

Police said he struck a concrete train trestle stanchion and suffered traumatic injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
