Bellmore- Merrick Community Cupboard Needs Your Help

Hunger exists in literally every county in America. No one should go to bed hungry.

The Community Cupboard is a school-community partnership program that provides food to families in our community who have found themselves in crisis. Those in crisis are may be people that have: lost their jobs, lost income due to illness, medical bills, maybe a death in the family, had an addition to their family and cannot make ends meet. They are the hungry in our community for whatever reason. The Community Cupboard, located in the Brookside School in North Merrick provides a more readily accessible source of food assistance to students and their families. The Community Cupboard’s objectives are to: provide nutritious, healthy food to children and families at-risk of hunger for preparation and consumption at their home; and distribute food discreetly in easily accessible and safe environments. The Cupboard is donation based and run by school faculty and student volunteers who stock and inventory donated food items. It is a way for students to help students; and neighbors to help neighbors.

Community support and donations help families stay in their homes, keeps families intact and

ensures that no one goes to bed hungry. Typically the summer months bring fewer resources and donations.
