Bethany House Names Douglas O’Dell as Executive Director

Not-for-Profit Agency Has Provided Emergency Shelter and Support Services for Women and Children in Nassau County Since 1978

Bethany House, a not-for-profit provider of emergency shelter and support services for over 40 years to women and children in Nassau County facing homelessness, has appointed Douglas O’Dell as Executive Director.

O’Dell served in a variety of roles with SCO Family of Services in Queens and in Nassau County for the past 24 years -- most recently as Executive Director. With 40 years’ professional experience transitioning families from poverty to sustainability, O’Dell has developed and administered evidence-based programs that address family and child trauma that is often associated with homelessness. He has directed child and family treatment programs and mother/child family shelters, foster care and transitional living programs in New York City and on Long Island. Prior to his service with SCO he was the Director of Training for the Institute for Families and Children.

“Our newly revitalized Board of Directors is confident that Doug’s experience and vision in working with families in crisis will allow Bethany House to continue to meet our mission and strengthen our community partnerships, as we move women and children onto a path to security, hope and success,” said John Galante, Bethany House Board Chairperson.
