Police Chase Ends When Wheel Flies Off Car: Nassau Police
Police said they found drugs and a loaded handgun in the suspect's Mercedes-Benz.
ROOSEVELT, NY — A police chase in Roosevelt Monday night ended after a wheel fell off a suspect's car, according to Nassau County police.
Ronald K. Opoku, 23, of Prospect Street in Baldwin, was arrested and charged with fleeing from police, resisting arrest and criminal possession of a weapon, among other charges.
Police said officers were on patrol at 9 p.m. when they saw Opoku speeding in a 2020 Mercedes-Benz on Nassau Road and failing to signal while changing lanes.

Officers tried to pull Opoku over but he sped off and fled until his car lost a wheel, police said. He jumped out of the car while it was still moving and tried to flee, but officers caught him and placed him under arrest, police said.
Police said they found drugs and a loaded, defaced 9mm handgun in the car.

Opoku was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle and numerous vehicle and traffic violations. He was scheduled to be arraigned later Tuesday.
