'Dance Moms' Stars Stop by Merrick Studio

Ava and Jeanette Cota joined aspiring dancers during a workshop at Air & Dance Theatre.

Reality television stars Ava and Jeanette Cota stopped by a workshop at Merrick’s Air & Dance Theatre Saturday.

The Cotas, who star in “Dance Moms” on Lifetime, came to the studio and worked with around 50 dance students between 6 and 17 years old. The class worked with the Cotas to learn a choreographed performance by the studio’s artistic director, Dana DeStefano.

The workshop was the latest of multiple workshops hosted by Air & Dance, which is a pre-professional performing arts school with classes in tap, jazz, contemporary, ballet, and musical theater. The studio will host an American Ballet Theatre workshop later in August and a Broadway dance workshop in September.

“Our students deserve the best and that is what they get,” said Air & Dance owner Rory McDonough, adding that she heard students saying it was one of the most educational workshops of the year.
