Hadassah women to make Necessities Bags for women undergoing breast cancer surgery

The Merrick Bellmore Dayan Lilah Group of Hadassah invites local women and their mothers, sisters and daughters to join members when they assemble “necessities bags” to help women undergoing breast cancer surgery.

The Necessities Bag was created for mastectomy patients by a breast cancer survivor. The bags give women undergoing breast cancer surgery items they need to get through the first few days of homecoming and contain practical information and post-op supplies for wound care, personal comfort and hygiene. Women are given their bag before surgery by their surgeon or nurse at a breast center, medical office or hospital. Items in the bags are donated and assembled by caring, dedicated women; this woman to woman connection is powerful for recovering patients.
