Then you should consider heading to Norman J Levy Park and Preserve, the perfect place to get a breath of fresh air. Whether you are into fitness, the outdoors, wild life or photography; the preserve is an amazing spot for a quick escape from reality.
The highest point of the park stands at 115 feet offering astonishing views of the Jones Beach Tower, and on weather permitting days you can even get a glance at the New York City Skyline. The 52-acre park contains a 500 ft. fishing pier that stands tall over Merrick Bay with views of the Merrick golf course, There is also a kayak launch area that is accessible during the summer months. The park also includes miles of hiking and jogging trails with 18 exercise stations along the way. Extensive park tours are also offered for those who are interested.
The Park showcases an abundance of wildlife. A herd of Nigerian Dwarf Goats live inside the preserve, aside from being adorable the goats act as landscapers of sorts, helping to control weed and bush overgrowth in the park. There is also a flock of Guinea Fowl in the park, they are a turkey sized bird that act as a friendly alternative to insecticides to prevent ticks in the preserve. In the summer you can usually see baby sea turtle eggs/hatchlings near the pier and eventually making their way out into the bay.
