Local Family Collects Truckload of Food Donations

Record Amount of Donations Marks Eighth Year of Local Volunteer Action

Saturday, March 16th, marked the eighth year Rob and Mary Hallam collected, since January, an amazing amount of the community's generous food donations, for the Long Island Council of Churches Food Pantry. A record truckload of over 20,000 cans, bottles and boxes of food items was moved from their Malverne living room to Freeport. As reported by CBS2NY TV News, 150 volunteers loaded and later unloaded the 700 crates, cartons and boxes packed full of canned fruit, vegetables, and soups, as well as various boxed breakfast food items and dinner foods, including pastas and tomato sauces.

Food collections at the Malverne Community Presbyterian Church began 15 years ago, but it was 8 years ago that "I knew I was called," Rob Hallam said.

More details and photos of the local volunteer action are found at Hallam's Facebook page, "The People's February Food Drive."
