What does the nominee do?
Volunteers to provide meals for community members that are essential workers. They have set up a Facebook page, Bellmore Merrick Helping Our Heroes, to collect donations to send meals to hospital workers at all local hospitals, to police precincts, fire houses, supermarkets, drug stores, etc. in coordination with local restaurants, delis, bagel stores. You can access their page on Facebook to view all the photos of essential workers thanking them for the food as well as good wishes sent with each meal. These notes and cards are from children and other members of the community. They are now selling lawn signs to thank our essential workers and using that money to further fuel the amount of donations so that more meals can be ordered and delivered.
Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored?
These two women are always on the forefront of providing anything necessary to aid and assist our community members in need. Their reputation in providing community support is held in the highest of esteem. In their first week of asking for community donations, they raised thousands of dollars. And they certainly have made a difference in supporting and acknowledging the hard work and sacrifices that everyone has made.
What’s one thing you want everyone to know about your hero?
They represent a kind, caring community.
