Lost, Injured Dog Found In Merrick

Good Samaritans brought the dog, which was likely hit by a car, to an animal hospital for care.

MERRICK, NY — A lost, injured dog was found in Merrick Thursday night after it was apparently hit by a car. It is currently being cared for at an animal hospital while vets try to find its owners.

The dog was found around 9 p.m. Thursday near Merrick Avenue and Sunrise Highway in Merrick. It had apparently been hit by a car, although it was not seriously injured. It is an older male lab/pit mix with a black coat. It had no ID or microchip. The dog is extremely friendly.

The dog was brought to the Veterinary Emergency Group at 204B Glen Cove Road in Carle Place, where it currently is. If the animal hospital can't find the owners by tonight, the dog will be transferred to the care of the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter.
