Meadowbrook Alternative Program’s Val And Sal Get Car Parade

Staff honored the school's top-performing students with a socially-distanced car parade.

MERRICK, NY — Students and staff from the Meadowbrook Alternative Program in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District participated in a car parade on April 6 to congratulate the class of 2020’s valedictorian and salutatorian Laszlo Goch and Mariana Mora.

“The MAP staff met in their cars in a parking lot and then proceeded to parade past Mariana's house and then Laszlo's house,” said Principal Susan Ellinghaus.

With the helpful organization of school counselor Catrina Christensen, cars were decorated with signs and congratulatory messages.

“We honked, hooted and hollered, which drew the attention of neighbors who then joined in the celebration,” added Ellinghaus. “The kids were completely surprised.”
