Merrick Appoints New Assistant Superintendent Of Business

Ryan Butler will take the role in the district on Jan. 19.

MERRICK, NY — At its meeting on Dec. 14, the Merrick Board of Education appointed Ryan Butler as the district’s new assistant superintendent for business. He officially starts on Jan. 19.

With more than a decade of experience working in educational finances, Butler is well-qualified to fill the position, held currently by interim Assistant Superintendent for Business Sydney Freifelder.

Butler has served as the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School District Assistant Business Official since 2014. He said, as the “No. 2 guy,” he was responsible for preparing district financials, maintaining budgets and ensuring the smooth approval and completion of capital projects. Prior to that, he worked as a business associate with the Hewlett-Woodmere School District.

“I’m looking forward to working with the Merrick School District Board of Education, administration and community to promote robust student achievement, while maintaining fiscal responsibility to maximize the available resources for students to achieve to their highest potential,” Butler said.

As a husband and proud father of two, Butler enjoys coaching Lynbrook Little League softball for his daughter, Emily, as well as Lynbrook East Rockaway Soccer Club for Emily and his son, Eric.
