Merrick Celebrates its Sixth Graders

The district's schools all held special celebrations for the students as they moved up to middle school.

MERRICK, NY — Sixth grade families in the Merrick School District participated in drive-up car parade celebrations at their respective schools on June 15, as students were cheered by faculty, staff and their principals for all of their hard work since kindergarten.

As they drove up to their schools, each student was awarded their sixth grade diploma and provided with their own photo opportunity as a special memento in a safe, organized manner. Signs of congratulations were displayed by the school faculty and staff members, as well as those from students, thanking teachers and staff for all of their support through the years.

Prior to the parades, each school held their own virtual commencement exercises, filled with prerecorded words of advice, congratulations and encouragement from administrators, Board of Education members and student council officers, among others. Schools also honored their sixth grade award winners through separate virtual ceremonies.
