Merrick Woman Named Hadassah Great Communicator

Merrick resident Amy Weinstein has been named a Great Communicator by the Merick Bellmore Dayan Lilah Group of Hadassah.

Amy Weinstein, of Merrick, has been named “Great Communicator” by the Merrick Bellmore Dayan Lilah Group of Hadassah. She will be honored at a county-wide meeting of the Nassau Region of Hadassah.

Mrs. Weinstein joined Hadassah in 1995 and is a life member. She received the organization’s National Leadership Award in 2003 and the Myrtle Wreath Award in 2005. She has chaired Installation and Mah Jongg night, Spring Dinner and Chinese Auction, and has always helped with Bingo as well as various dinners and events through the years. She did hand calligraphy as Dayan Lilah’s Certificate and Tree Coordinator for eight years, a position she gave up to serve as Dayan Lilah’s co-President from 2009-11. She now creates the flyers for all of the group’s events. About nine years ago, she became the “unofficial” Nassau Region of Hadassah Conference Piano Accompanist.

Outside of Hadassah, Mrs. Weinstein has served on the PTA Executive Board at Chatterton Elementary School, was an active member of the Temple Beth Am PTA, serves as Class Rep for her Mepham HS Class and is a member of the CHS District Alumni Choir. She grew up in Bellmore, attending Park Avenue School, Jerusalem Ave JHS and finally Mepham HS. She has lived in Merrick for 24 years with her husband, Howie, and two daughters, Lindsey and Jenna. A music teacher at various synagogues over the years, she works at Oceanside Jewish Center, Jacobs Ladder, Wee Friends, Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Center and Temple B’nai Shalom.

Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, is a volunteer organization that inspires a passion for and commitment to its partnership with the land and people of Israel. It enhances the health of people worldwide through its support of medical care and research at the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem. Hadassah empowers its members and supporters, as well as youth in Israel and America through opportunities for personal growth, education, advocacy and Jewish continuity.
