Merrick's George Custance Honored By UJA

George Custance, a resident of Merrick and president of The Whitmore Group, was honored recently by the UJA-Federation of New York at the 2017 Long Island Insurance Division Dinner at the Woodbury Jewish Center in Woodbury.

Custance has been with Whitmore for more than 10 years, serving as the architect of the company’s commercial lines department. Located in Garden City, Whitmore is a prominent insurance services and estate planning company.

A former major league baseball prospect, Custance’s interests include boating and sports activities both as a participant and as a manager. He volunteers as a board member for various youth sports organizations and he supports The Whitmore Group’s many philanthropic programs.

“An insurance executive, an athlete but most of all I hold him in such high regard as a person,” said James C. Metzger, the CEO and founder of The Whitemore Group, as he introduced Custance at the UJA dinner. “I almost think of him as a father figure, because the person in my life who has similar impeccable character and perfect integrity is my father.”
