MWI Gives Grant to AWSM Scientist

Funding Helps Women Doing Medical Research on LI

Lior Brimberg, Ph.D, is the 2018 recipient of a Meadowbrook Women’s Initiative (MWI) grant of $2,000 to AWSM (Advancing Women in Science and Medicine) at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research/Northwell Health. Dr. Brimberg’s current research project is “the importance of the in utero environment on brain development,” as it relates to the development of autism.

AWSM is a group of Feinstein Institute female faculty members who lead programs in basic, translational and clinical research in a wide variety of areas. At the recent presentation of MWI’s annual grant, the 2017 recipient, Katharina A. Schindlbeck, MD, a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Neurosciences, presented updated findings on her work, which focuses on imaging biomarkers to improve the diagnosis in Parkinson’s disease. She uses metabolic imaging to study the progression and cognitive impairment in patients with Parkinson’s disease.

MWI’s members are mostly retired women who live in virtually every community in Nassau County, as well as Suffolk and Queens. The organization is dedicated to promoting lifetime learning, serving the community, raising funds for worthwhile local causes and making a difference in the lives of members and the lives of others. Further information about MWI’s mission and activities can be found on its website: www.meadowbrookwomen.org.
