Nassau County Police Officers Rescue Dog From Freezing Waters
The dog fell into a creek and was struggling to stay above water when the officers arrived in their boat.

Nassau County police officers rescued a dog from freezing cold waters in Merrick Thursday morning.
According to police, officers responded to a call at 10:20 a.m. for a Jack Russel terrier named Eddie that was in the water of Cedar Swamp Creek in Merrick, part of the Meroke Reserve just off Sunrise Highway.
When the Marine 11 officers arrived, they found the dog against a bulkhead trying to stay above water by clinging to a crossbeam. The officers were able to remove the dog from the water and bring it onto their boat. They got the dog back to shore and reunited it with its owner.

One officer sustained a puncture wound to both hands from rescuing the dog, police said, and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
