He is one of 20 contestants, including a fellow Long Islander, competing on the show.

Two Long Islanders, one of them a music teacher from Merrick, will be competing in the new season of CBS's Survivor that begins in February. Jacob Derwin, a 22-year-old teacher, will be competing on the show as part of the Malolo Tribe. Domenick Abbate, a 38-year-old construction supervisor from Nesconset, will be competing against him in the Naviti Tribe.

The new season, which features 20 new castaways, begins Feb. 28. Themed "Ghost Island," the season will center on the bad choices of past players. Players may be sent to a separate "haunted" island filled with past relics from the other 35 seasons of the show.
