New York American Water Rates To Rise For LI Customers

Customers could see an increase of more than 6 percent, depending on the area they live in.

New York American Water is raising rates for its Long Island customers, according to reports on Tuesday.

The utility, which mainly services a large portion of Nassau County here on Long Island, announced the rate increase in a letter to customers, according to Newsday. The increases range from 4.78 percent to 6.47 percent, depending on which area customers are in, Newsday reported. That could mean an increase of $2.70 to $4.08.

New York American Water's Long Island District services Atlantic Beach, Baldwin, Cedarhurst, East Rockaway, Hempstead, Hewlett, Hewlett Bay Park, Hewlett Harbor, Hewlett Neck, Island Park, Lawrence, Lynbrook, Malverne, Mill Neck, Oceanside, Roosevelt, Valley Stream, Woodsburgh and Woodmere. The Merrick District services Merrick, North Merrick, Bellmore, North Bellmore, Wantagh, North Wantagh, Seaford, Massapequa, Massapequa Park, Levittown, Hempstead and Oyster Bay. And the Sea Cliff District services Sea Cliff, Glen Head, Glenwood Landing, Old Brookville, Roslyn Harbor and Glen Cove.
