NYAW Announces Scholarship Award to Calhoun High School Student

Sarah Multer Receives $3,000 Scholarship to Pursue Her Career in Mechanical Engineering

Merrick, N.Y. (August 24, 2020) - Through its partnership with the New York Chapter of the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC-NY), New York American Water recently awarded Sarah Multer of Sanford H. Calhoun High School a $3,000 scholarship. This marks the ninth consecutive year that New York American Water has offered scholarships to high school students within its service area to pursue higher education in a field that can make a difference in the water industry.

“We congratulate Sarah on all of her achievements both academically and within the community,” said Lynda DiMenna, President of New York American Water. “She is very deserving of this recognition and we know that both her educational and career pursuits have a bright future.”

Sarah graduated from Sanford H. Calhoun High School this past June and is one of seven award recipients this year. She will be attending The University of Michigan this fall and will be majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

While a student at Sanford H. Calhoun High School, Sarah had a great academic track record as well as a bevy of extracurricular activities. In addition to her academic excellence, Sarah was a member of the Concert Choir, Secretary of the Robotics team, and played sports such as spring track, basketball, and cheerleading. On top of all of that, Sarah also donated her time to a club called Express Yourself, where she mentored special needs children using drama therapy to help improve their socialization skills.
