Severe Thunderstorm Warning In Effect For Parts Of Long Island

BREAKING: 60 mph wind gusts are possible.

LONG ISLAND – The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Nassau County and western Suffolk County until 4 p.m. Thursday. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until the same time for eastern Suffolk.

Wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail are possible. As of 3:15 p.m., there are 802 PSEG Long Island customers without power, according to the PSEG outage map.

"With potentially gusty winds and heavy rain starting today, we want to assure everyone that we're well prepared and ready!," PSEG wrote on its Facebook page.

A wind advisory is in effect for the entire island until 8 p.m.

At 215 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Oyster Bay to Manasquan, N.J. moving east at 55 mph, the weather service says.

Minor hail damage to vehicles is possible. Expect wind damage to trees and power lines.

  • Huntington and Huntington Station around 2:25 p.m.
  • Northport and Commack around 2:30 p.m.
  • Hauppauge and Brentwood around 2:35 p.m.
  • Stony Brook and Ronkonkoma around 2:40 p.m.
  • Patchogue and Port Jefferson around 2:45 p.m.
  • Middle Island and Medford around 2:50 p.m.
