Thunderstorms To Break Long Island Heat Wave

The National Weather Service is warning of the potential for torrential rainfall and flash flooding.

Long Island dodged thunderstorms on the Fourth of July, but it's looking quite likely we won't be spared come Friday. The good news: the storms will break a heat wave that has sent residents on a constant search to find the next air conditioned location.

The National Weather Service is warning that there is the potential for Friday's storms to "produce torrential rainfall and flash flooding."

About an inch of rain is expected to fall from Friday morning into the evening. Thunderstorms will be possible basically the entire day, but the NWS says the window of about 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. has the best chance of bringing storms to the island.
