Wind-Related Issues Causing LIRR Delays, Cancellations

BREAKING: Heads up if you're taking the train home from work this evening.

Strong winds are causing a mess of problems on the Long Island Rail Road Monday evening.

"Anticipate delays and cancellations during the PM Peak due to wind-related power outages, fallen utility poles and broken crossing gates," the LIRR said in a tweet.

A PSEG Long Island utility pole leaning dangerously toward the tracks in Massapequa Park suspended service on the Babylon Branch earlier. Limited service has been restored between Seaford and points west and between Amityville and Babylon, but service remains suspended in both directions between Seaford and Amityville. LIRR riders can use the NICE Bus (separate fare) that provides parallel service to Amityville along the n54/55 line, the LIRR said.

The LIRR is experiencing delays averaging 90 minutes on the Ronkonkoma Branch east of Hicksville due to a power outage affecting the signal system, which is causing trains to operate at reduced speeds.

Delays are also being reported on the Montauk and Port Jefferson branches. Find the latest delays and cancellations on the LIRR website here.
