47 Affordable Hell's Kitchen Apartments Hit Housing Lottery

Offering rents as low as $1,130, the apartments in Hell's Kitchen's River Place complex are now listed through the city's housing lottery.

HELL'S KITCHEN, NY — Dozens of affordable homes in a Hell's Kitchen apartment complex were listed this week on the city's housing lottery, offering rents as low as $1,130 for people making as little as $38,700 per year.

The 47 apartments are part of River Place, a huge, 900-unit development on West 42nd Street that overlooks the Hudson River.

The listing on Housing Connect advertises 13 studio apartments with monthly rents of $1,130; 28 one-bedrooms costing $1,634; and six two-bedrooms costing $2,467 each.

The deadline to apply online or by mail is June 29.

All apartments are available to New Yorkers earning up to 130 percent of the area median income — equivalent to between $38,743 and $108,680 for a single person. (Only the studios can be occupied by one person, while the two-bedrooms can have households as large as five people.)

River Place boasts a number of amenities, including an indoor swimming pool and basketball courts, a fitness center with outdoor tennis, a valet parking garage and a free shuttle bus that runs to nearby subway lines. All apartments are rent-stabilized.

The 20-year-old building is set to receive a tax break for offering the affordable units, through the city's 421a program.
