'Affordable' Apartments In Midtown Require $66K Salary

Individuals must make at least $66,800 to qualify for 16 new apartments in Midtown available through the city's affordable housing lottery.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Sixteen new apartments are up for grabs through the city's affordable housing program in a new building in Midtown East, but only for those making more than $68,000 a year.

The apartments at 222 East 44th Street include eight studios, seven one-bedrooms and one two-bedroom unit, according to the listing on Housing Connect. Monthly rent ranges from $1,949 to $2,519.

The studios, which are the cheapest of the bunch, require a minimum income of $66,823 for a one-person household, or $95,520 for two people.

For most of the one-bedroom apartments, applicants must make at least $71,692 for a one-person household, or $122,880 for a three-person household, the largest allowable size. Another one-bedroom unit has a slightly lower income floor: $69,223.

Meanwhile, the two-bedroom apartment requires an $86,366 salary for two people, which is the minimum, or $147,360 for a five-person household, which is the largest size allowed.

Applications must be submitted by Oct. 23, according to the listing.

The building, Summit NYC, is a 42-story luxury tower whose construction finished in 2018. A portion of the building's 429 units were set aside as affordable through the city's Inclusionary Housing Program.

Amenities include floor-to-ceiling windows, washer/dryer units, central heating and cooling and a sports club featuring a pool, a basketball court, a squash court and a sauna, according to the building's website.
