Bomb Threat At Empire State Building Unfounded: NYPD

The threat at the iconic New York skyscraper comes two days after a Christmas Day explosion in Nashville.

NEW YORK, NY — A bomb threat called in at the Empire State Building has turned out to be false. The threat was confirmed by the New York Police Department late Sunday morning, according to multiple media reports.

The call came in around 11 a.m., according to a report from PIX-11 News. A police spokesperson told the news channel the person stated the bomb would go off there around noon.

An NYPD bomb squad responded to the landmark and determined the threat to be unfounded, according to the report. The Empire State Building was deemed safe by 12:30 p.m.

NYPD Chief Terence Monahan said at the time there were "no credible threats" to the building on 34th Street.

The threat at New York's tallest skyscraper came two days after an explosion in downtown Nashville injured multiple people and knocked out communication lines in the area.
