Central Park Tower Tops Out As World's Tallest Apartment Building
Extell Development's "Central Park Tower" will be the world's tallest residential building at 1,550-feet-tall.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Extell Development's "Central Park Tower" topped out Tuesday, earning the destination of becoming the tallest residential building in the world, according to reports.
The luxury development stands 1,550-feet-tall on a stretch of West 57th Street known as Billionaire's row between Broadway and Seventh Avenue. In addition to becoming the tallest apartment building in the world, the Central Park Tower's roof height tops towers such as One World Trade Center and Chicago's Willis Tower.
New York Magazine first reported that Central Park Tower would top out Tuesday in an interview with the building's architects Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill. The architects described the process of designing and building a supertall tower in the middle of Manhattan.

Central Park Tower and other supertall buildings such as One57, 432 Park Avenue and 111 West 57th Street — which is also still under construction — are forming a new class of apartment tower that rises taller than 1,000-feet-high.
Extell Development's new building will contain 179 condos which are expected to sell for about $4 billion combined. Sales launched at the beginning of the year. Remaining work on the development such as facade installation and interior work is expected to be complete sometime in 2020.
