Fire Breaks Out In High-Rise Near Grand Central: FDNY

EAST MIDTOWN, NY — A fire broke out at an East Midtown landmarked high-rise building near Grand Central Friday morning, an FDNY spokesperson said.

The fire broke out on the second floor of the building in an electrical closet at the 31-story landmarked Graybar building, located at 420 Lexington Ave. near Grand Central, the FDNY said.

Twelve units and 60 firefighters rushed to the fire about 9:05 a.m. Friday, the spokesperson said.

Firefighters were still at the building about 9:30 a.m., though the bulk of the fire had been knocked down, the spokesperson said.

No injuries were reported.

New York City's Emergency Management said to expect smoke and traffic delays in the area.

"People nearby avoid smoke, close windows," NYCEM - Notify NYC wrote on Twitter.
