Footage Of Times Square Shooting Suspect Released By Police

Police shared video of Sunday's shooting in Times Square that injured a 21-year-old Marine, as a search for the suspect continues.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Police on Monday released footage of Sunday's daylight shooting in the heart of Times Square that injured a 21-year-old bystander visiting from out of town.

The shooting happened around 5:15 p.m. Sunday, when an unidentified man fired shots near the corner of West 45th Street and Seventh Avenue, right under the Marriott Marquis sign, police said.

Instead of their intended target, the shots hit an innocent bystander: reportedly a 21-year-old Marine visiting the city from upstate New York. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

The shooting emerged from a dispute between CD vendors, ABC reported.

Police shared surveillance footage on Monday that showed the alleged suspect, who they said fled east along West 45th Street toward Sixth Avenue.

This week's incident came more than a month after another Times Square shooting just a block south, which injured three bystanders including a four-year-old girl. The suspect in that crime — 31-year-old Farrakhan Muhammad — was also a CD vendor and was attempting to shoot his brother, according to authorities.

Muhammad was arrested in Florida on May 12 after a four-day manhunt.

Police asked anyone with information about Sunday's shooting to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). People can also submit tips online or on Twitter, @NYPDTips.
