George and Amal Clooney Buy Glassy Midtown Pad Near United Nations

Sources told the New York Post the Clooneys looked at the penthouse but decided to go with something a bit more modest.

MIDTOWN, NY — George and Amal Clooney have scooped up a Midtown pad at One Hundred East Fifty Third Street, and while it's not the $65 million penthouse, it is still pretty darn fancy, the New York Post reported.

Amenities of the building, which is under construction and expected to open next year, include a 24-hour-attended lobby, steam room, sauna, spa, swimming pool, library lounge, yoga and pilates rooms, a gourmet marketplace that takes up two floors, and a restaurant by 24-Michelin-star-rated French Chef Joël Robuchon. It's being developed by Aby Rosen and designed by Norman Foster.

Apartments in the building are going for anywhere from $2.6 million to $14.75 million.

Sources told the Post that the Clooneys wanted a place near the United Nations headquarters, as Amal is an international human rights lawyer and currently teaching international human rights law at Columbia Law School.
