Sad Chucky

In the original 1998 film, Chucky is a malicious serial killer who, when bleeding out from a gunshot wound, transfers his soul into a nearby ‘Good Guy’ doll and attempts to transfer it back into a human body throughout the films. Chucky is one of horror’s most notorious icons, having been referenced in several works outside of the franchise. Discussing Chucky’s design, his creator Don Mancini said, “In my original script, he was originally called Buddy, and we couldn’t use it because of the ‘My Buddy’ doll. The director went out and got a ‘My Buddy’ doll, a Raggedy Ann, a Raggedy Andy and one of those life-size baby infants.” “What I told [designer] Kevin Yagher was, I wanted something similar to a My Buddy doll,” Mancini added, “I described ‘Buddy’ in my original script, now ‘Chucky’, as wearing red-buttoned overalls, red sneakers, striped sweater, with red hair, blue eyes, and freckles. Kevin went off and sketched many designs of Chucky, until the final was picked. Yagher then built the first doll from those sketches and my details”. Fascinatingly, Chucky also is a homage to a real-life story concerning an equally creepy doll from 1906. The doll is named Robert, and he had been gifted to a young boy from Key West, Florida, by the name of Robert Eugene Otto.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Purveyors of fine hot dogs averse to making the trek to the Upper West Side will be getting a new Gray's Papaya in Midtown, according to a report.<a href="http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20160826/REAL_ESTATE/160829906/grays-papaya-is-back-after-being-left-with-one-hot-dog-shop-it-is" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Crain's New York reports</a> venerable 24-hour hot dog shop Gray's Papaya will be opening a new location at 612 Eighth Avenue, between 39th and 40th streets, before the end of 2016. Gray's closed its previous Midtown location, on the corner of Eighth Avenue and 37th Street, in 2011 and its Greenwich Village outpost in January 2014.The only location currently open is the Upper West Side location at 2090 Broadway between 71st and 72nd streets.Gray's Papaya is known for its single hot dogs for $2.50 and the Recession Special — two dogs and a drink — for $4.45.The new restaurant will be located just a few blocks from its old location, but even closer to Times Square and the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
