Hell's Kitchen Pizza Joint Named One Of The Best In New York

Food & Wine Magazine's new list of the best pizza in every state includes a Hell's Kitchen joint, plus another in Midtown.

HELL'S KITCHEN, NY — New York may have slipped to the third-best state for pizza in a new ranking from Food & Wine Magazine, but a Hell's Kitchen joint was among the first shops listed in a collection of the best pizzerias in the state.

Published Wednesday, "The Best Pizza in Every State" also includes rankings of the 10 best pizza states in America. New York finished third behind New Jersey and Connecticut.

Instead of a numbered list of the best pizza places, reporter David Landsel wrote several paragraphs for each state, each containing descriptions of a handful of pizzerias he deemed the very best.

Among the first joints named in New York: Corner Slice, which can be found inside Gotham West Market on 11th Avenue and West 45th Street.

First opened in 2017 by chef Michael Bergemann, the shop is "always worth a walk" to the West Side, Landsel wrote.

Also earning a mention was Upside Pizza on the corner of Eighth Avenue and West 39th Street, which turns "pie after high-quality pie out of their brick-lined oven, just around the corner from Times Square," Landsel wrote. (Upside recently opened a second store in Nolita.)
