Herald Square Brawl Spurs Panic And Subway Delays: Officials

A possible fight broke out at the 34th Street subway station and terrified local commuters, according to police and witnesses.

MIDTOWN, NY — A fight broke out at the 34th St. Herald Square subway station during rush hour Wednesday morning, spurring a panic among terrified commuters and sparking train delays, according to officials and witnesses.

Two men were possibly fighting at the 34th Street station at Herald Square before 9 a.m., according to an NYPD Transit tweet.

At about the same time, commuter Matt Grossman saw "swarms of people started rushing out of the D train," and saw baby strollers strewn across the platform, he told Patch.

"Some were running into our train and others were leaving the station entirely," Grossman said. "Most of us stood in shock trying to understand what was going on. There was a lot of running, screaming, crying."

Another commuter reported a stampede of people fleeing the station.

MTA officials rerouted northbound F and M trains to the express line from West Fourth Street to 34th Street - Herald Square as police investigated, according to NYCT Subway.

The B, D, F, M northbound trains were delayed following the cops investigation at the station, NYCT Subway tweeted.
