High-Rise Apartment Building in Midtown West Coming in Place of Travel Inn
A 39-story apartment building will be constructed in place of the 7-story Travel Inn on 42nd Street between 9th and 10th avenues.

The seven-story Travel Inn on 42nd Street in Midtown West is no more. Instead, the property's owner, BD Hotels, will construct a new high-rise apartment building for Midtown West renter hopefuls, and CityRealty provided a rendering of the future building.

The plans filed by hotelier Richard Born of BD Hotels describe the new building at 515 W. 42nd Street as 443-foot tall with 39 stories and 350 rental residential units. Born is responsible for upscale hotels in Manhattan like the Mercer and the Stanhope hotels. Amenities in the building will include a laundry room in the basement, gym, bike room, mail in the lobby, a sky lounge, game room, outdoor garden, and terrace on the roof of the 38th floor, the plans say. There will also be 4,328 square feet of retail space on the first floor.
Each floor will have 10 apartments, and 10 apartments in the building will have private terraces. The high-rise will be located just one block west of the Pod Times Square hotel, also owned by Born.

A demolition application for the Travel Inn has not yet been filed, but Born's family has owned the property for several generations.
