HUDSON YARDS, NY — A new observation deck at a Hudson Yards skyscraper that promises some of the most death-defying views of the New York City skyscraper is set to open in early 2020, real estate developers said.

Tickets for the observation deck at 30 Hudson Yards — nicknamed The Edge — went on sale recently for a planned opening day of March 11, 2020, Related Companies announced. The deck will be New York City's tallest viewing point at 1,100 feet in the air and will extend about 80 feet from the skyscraper to give visitors unobstructed views of Manhattan and the Hudson River.

"You’ve never experienced New York like this before," Jason Horkin, executive director of Hudson Yards Experiences, said in a statement. "Stepping onto Edge is like walking out into the sky."

Tickets for the observatory are comparably priced to similar experiences at skyscrapers like the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center. Adults will pay $36 when buying tickets online or $38 at the skyscraper. New York City residents get a slight discount, with tickets running $34.

Architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates designed the observation deck, which is made out of 15 different sections that weigh between 35,000 and 100,000 pounds. The sections are bolted together and anchored to the east and south sides of the skyscraper.

The observation deck will also feature a 10,000-square-foot restaurant, bar and event space called Peak. The business will be operated by the hospitality group Rhubarb and will be the group's first venture in New York City. Rhubarb operates more than 70 venues in London, according to its website.

Hudson Yards was named New York City's most expensive neighborhood in a recent study conducted by real estate publication PropertyShark. The neighborhood surged past its Lower Manhattan competition with a median sales price of nearly $5 million in the third quarter of 2019, according to real estate publication PropertyShark's study. The impressive figure was based off 26 real estate sales in Hudson Yards that closed between April 1 and June 30.
