Landmark At 57 West Theater Closes Permanently
The Hell's Kitchen arthouse cinema is closing its doors permanently after three years in the neighborhood, but is seeking a new location.

HELL'S KITCHEN, NY — Midtown Manhattan has lost another movie theater: the Landmark at 57 West, an arthouse cinema that opened in September 2017 just off the West Side Highway, is permanently closing after failing to come to terms with its landlord.
The luxury, eight-auditorium cinema's closure, first reported by Indiewire, is the latest in a series of losses in the area, following the losses of Lincoln Plaza Cinemas in 2017 and the Ziegfeld Theater in 2016.
Some residents suggested on Twitter that the theater was located too far west to attract a reliable moviegoing audience. Landmark had tried to renegotiate its lease with its landlord, the Durst Organization, even before the coronavirus crisis, but to no avail, according to Indiewire.

According to deadline, Landmark may seek to find a new location for an Uptown theater, and other chains may seek to move into the 57 West space being vacated by Landmark, once theaters reopen in the city.
