Man Claiming He's Armed Robs Bank in Herald Square in Broad Daylight

The suspect held up the bank, saying he had a gun, just across the street from Macy's.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A suspect held up a bank, saying he had a gun, just across the street from Macy's in Herald Square on Wednesday.

The man, described as being in his 40s or 50s, walked into the Santander Bank at 1350 Broadway at 2:07 p.m. and approached a teller, demanding money and claiming he had a gun, according to police.

The teller complied and the man made off with an undetermined amount of cash, police said. No gun was ever shown.

The suspect is described by police as being in his late 40s or early 50s, about 5-foot-7 with a thin build. He had crooked, discolored teeth and a gray beard, police said. He was wearing an orange T-shirt, jeans and a baseball cap with "NY" on it.
