Man Sets Fire To Midtown Bar After Breaking In Through Roof: NYPD

Police are looking for a man accused of breaking into a Midtown bar through its roof, then setting a fire and fleeing the scene.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Police are looking for a man accused of breaking into an under-construction bar in Midtown last week, setting a fire and then fleeing the scene.

The break-in happened around 2 a.m. July 1 at Bella Union Bar, a not-yet-opened spot on the corner of Third Avenue and East 29th Street formerly home to the sports bar Tonic.

The unidentified suspect broke in through the rooftop, and once inside, gathered some paper floor protection material into a pile and set fire to it, police said — an act captured on surveillance footage.

The fire did not spread, and a worker discovered the remnants of the burglary the next morning and reported it to authorities, police said.
