Midtown 'Affordable' Units Require $102K Income
Twenty-eight apartments are being offered at below-market rents in a building on Eighth Avenue.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A Midtown Manhattan apartment building is holding a housing lottery for 28 below-market units, but some tenants will need to earn more than $102,000 to qualify for the homes.
The "affordable" apartments are located in the Avalon Midtown West development that occupies the entirety of Eighth Avenue between West 49th and 50th streets, according to the city's Housing Connect website. Studios are renting for $2,138 per month, one-bedroom units are renting for $2,487 per month and two-bedroom units are renting for $2,993 per month, according to the city website.
The homes are being offered to tenants earning 130 percent of the area median income. To qualify, an individual or household must earn at least $73,303 for a studio, $85,269 for a one-bedroom home or $102,618 for a two-bedroom home. Access to amenities such as a fitness center, indoor swimming pool, resident lounge and outdoor terrace all come with additional fees.

Prospective tenants may apply for the lottery through the city's Housing Connect website. A mail-in application can be requested by sending a self-addressed envelope to: Midtown West Affordable – 510 W. 52nd Street, New York, NY 10019. Applications must be sent or postmarked by December 31.
