Midtown Elementary School Is A National Blue Ribbon Winner

MIDTOWN, NY — A Midtown elementary school was honored as a National Blue Ribbon school, the U.S. Department of Education announced Thursday.

P.S. 59 Beekman Hill International was named as a Blue Ribbon school — a prestigious award that "affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content," according to the department.

The elementary school, on East 56th Street between Second and Third avenues, was among 362 schools nationwide.

In New York City, eight schools won the coveted distinction.

A ceremony honoring the schools will be held in Washington D.C. in November.
